About ATC

Overview

The Academy for Technology and the Classics (ATC) was founded in 2000 to provide a classical and technology-based approach to education in a public school setting. ATC aims to integrate students with various learning styles and personal strengths to foster communication, literacy, critical thinking, and the personal skills necessary for college success. The school's mission is to provide a rigorous college preparatory education for our students and prepare them for their future.  ATC strives to provide an environment in which our students are challenged intellectually, have fun learning, support each other, and are responsible members of our community.

Twenty-six credits are required for high school graduation. Specific requirements include four years of science (biology, chemistry, physics, and elective science credit), four years of English (pre-AP in 9th and 10th grade and Advanced Placement in 11th and 12th grade), four years of math (a minimum of Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus or Financial Literacy), 3.5 years of social studies (New Mexico history, Advanced Placement World History, Advanced Placement U.S. History, and Advanced Placement U.S. Government), and three years of foreign language. Advanced Placement courses are offered in English, physics, biology, environmental science, calculus, statistics, psychology, world history, U.S. history, U.S. government, and studio art. Some Advanced Placements courses are offered every other year and are dependent on student interest.

ATC has received an "A" letter grade from the New Mexico Public Education Department since 2014. US News and World Report has named ATC the #2 Best High School in New Mexico, and Niche named ATC as the #2 Best Charter High School in New Mexico. ATC was also named Best Charter School in New Mexico in 2016.

Values

  • Academic Rigor – ATC values rigorous academics in which students are challenged to reach their full intellectual potential and are helped to think, analyze, and articulately express their ideas.

  • Intellectual Curiosity - ATC cultivates fearless learners.  ATC nurtures intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and academic achievement.

  • Supportive Environment - The ATC community accepts all of our students and seeks to nourish each student’s individuality, creativity, and self-expression.  ATC teachers strive to accept and encourage their peer’s creativity, diversity, and individual personalities.

College Preparatory Curriculum and College Advising

ATC emphasizes honors, pre-advanced placement (AP), and AP classes. ATC offers a college advisory program in which a student is assigned an advisor in 7th grade who works with that student through 12th grade. The advisor helps students to prepare for college and to find the college that best fits each student's skills, needs, and interests.

 Classics and Technology

ATC integrates the classics into its curriculum by teaching outstanding literary, historical, scientific, and artistic works from cultures around the world. ATC brings technology that is effective as an educational tool into its curriculum and classrooms.
