Swallowtail Jig

newenglandmap

Jigs are a type of dance tune with a 6/8 time signature. That means there are two beats per measure and each beat is divided into 3 equal parts represented by 3 eighth notes.

Jigs generally are associated with Ireland and Scotland, but they are also an important part of the New England Contradance repertoire, which is heavily influenced by Irish and Scottish music. Contradancing is related to Squaredancing.
